Access to Finance for Hydrogen Initiatives in Emerging Markets and Developing Countries: Challenges and Solutions
The World Bank, Invest International and the Government of the Netherlands are delighted to present The Finance Forum, taking place on the 13th of May (14.00 – 17.00) as part of the World Hydrogen 2024 Summit & Exhibition.
The Finance Forum will be opened by Michel Heijdra, Vice Minister for Climate and Energy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate of the Netherlands with panel speakers including: Port of Rotterdam, Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, Yara Clean Ammonia, Masdar, ING Bank, Climate Fund Managers, International Finance Corporation, Inter-American Development Bank, H2 Global Foundation and the European Commission.
Green Hydrogen is rising on the global agenda as a viable energy vector for the energy transition. The International Financial Institutions (IFIs) and Invest International have vastly expanded their operations in Green Hydrogen in emerging markets and developing countries over the last couple of years and have launched several programs to support and accelerate the transition to greener energy in their client countries.
The Finance Forum, co-hosted by the World Bank, Invest International and the Government of the Netherlands, aims to outline private sector challenges in developing and financing Green Hydrogen projects in the Global South and to highlight the solutions IFIs can offer to encourage public and private actors to successfully finance Green Hydrogen projects. A new 10 GW lighthouse initiative will be presented.
To meet the 2050 climate goals, today’s levels of clean hydrogen production must increase 20-fold (~40 Mt) through 2030. A big challenge remains financing Green Hydrogen projects in emerging markets and developing countries. Public finance alone will not suffice to diminish the gap between costs and commercial viability. Mobilizing private sector financing and participation is key to bring Green Hydrogen projects to the market.
Join the Forum to discover how finance can be convened to accelerate investments needed and move forward Green Hydrogen projects and the industry in emerging markets and developing countries. Attendance is included within delegate and exhibition visitor passes, but spaces are limited.
