Cynthia has made contributions to the industrial community as an inventor, innovator, leader and change agent. Currently, she is the Hydrogen Vectors Portfolio Manager in Innovation & Engineering at bp. In this role she is excited about leading the team that is charged with deploying the technologies that will unlock the hydrogen export market. She has held various roles related to refining, such as Senior Manager for the Low Carbon Refining & Catalytic Processes Team, and in refining that were anchored on her materials science and corrosion expertise which all served to help ensure the mechanical integrity of bp refineries to deliver products safely and reliably to our customers from Kwinana, Australia to Cherry Point, USA. She also served as a Business Manager for the COO of Fuels, North America, which helped develop her commercial acumen and refined her leadership skills.
Prior to bp, Cynthia worked for The Dow Chemical Company as an Associate Research Scientist on various platforms from photoresist materials for electronic applications to automotive seating to additives for lubricant formulations.
Cynthia holds 6 US granted patents. She earned her Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering from Northwestern University and a B.S.E. degree in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University. Cynthia has been nationally recognized by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and National Society of Black Engineers for her efforts in advocacy and building programs in support of STEM education to help build our pipeline of future scientists and engineers.
In her personal time, she enjoys exploring the world with her husband, Robert.
