Dr. Patrick Hartley is the leader of the Hydrogen Industry Mission at the CSIRO, Australia’s National Science Agency. The Mission is focussed on enabling a commercially viable Australian hydrogen industry comprising both domestic and export value chains through research, development, and demonstration partnerships.
Since 2017, he has worked with government, industry, and the research community on matters relating to hydrogen industry strategy, including through the co-delivery of significant reports such as ‘Hydrogen for Australia’s Future’ with the Chief Scientist of Australia (2018), CSIRO’s National Hydrogen Roadmap (2018), and the study ‘Hydrogen Research, Development & Demonstration: Priorities and opportunities for Australia’ which was delivered in November 2019 as an input into the National Hydrogen Strategy.
Patrick is currently the chair of the board, of the Australian Hydrogen Research Network, an independent peak body for Australia’s hydrogen R&D community, and co-chair of the Australian federal government’s Australia-India Green Hydrogen Taskforce.
Patrick holds a PhD in chemical engineering from Imperial College, London, and following research fellowships in surface chemistry at the University of Melbourne and CSIRO, has occupied CSIRO research management roles since 2006. He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and holds an Adjunct Professorship at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.
